Board of Directors

  • Tyra Moore, President

    Tyra Moore, Board President of Brightmoor Artisans Collective, is a dedicated Brightmoor resident and founder of the local nonprofit A Girl Like Me, Inc. She is passionate about supporting mothers and families in the neighborhood by providing nutrition education, entrepreneurial skill-building, and access to essential services. Through her leadership, Tyra champions community-driven solutions that strengthen families, expand opportunities, and foster resilience across Brightmoor.

  • Tanya Fielder, Treasurer

    Tanya Fielder serves as Treasurer of Brightmoor Artisans Collective and is the co-founder of Community Celebrating Birth. A certified Birth Doula and daughter of a Brightmoor resident, Tanya supports Detroiters through all of life’s passages. She brings a thoughtful perspective to BAC’s fiscal stewardship and grant writing and has been a dedicated volunteer since 2023, helping lead the Brightmoor Harvest Festival and other community programs. Tanya is also working toward certification as an End-of-Life Doula, expanding her commitment to supporting community members through every stage of life.

  • Mary Beth Mauer, Secretary

    Mary Beth serves as Board Secretary of Brightmoor Artisans Collective and is a dedicated Metro Detroit resident who stepped up to support the organization in the wake of the pandemic. A retired science teacher and lifelong learner, she is currently pursuing her Contractor’s License while serving as BAC’s Facility Maintenance Officer. In this role, Mary Beth ensures the collective’s kitchen, equipment, and building operations run smoothly and meet compliance standards. Her steady leadership and attention to detail help sustain the organization’s mission and keep its spaces thriving for the community.

  • Thomas Obioha, Trustee

    Thomas Obioha serves as a Trustee of Brightmoor Artisans Collective and is a legacy resident of District 1 in Northwest Detroit. As Executive Director of Detroit Block Works, he is dedicated to strengthening neighborhoods through community-led initiatives, one block at a time. A native Detroiter with deep roots in the area, Thomas brings a diverse background in community advocacy, small business engagement, strategic planning, and grant writing to support local entrepreneurs and foster economic growth. He is committed to empowering residents to lead change, build resilient networks, and create lasting opportunities throughout Brightmoor and the wider Northwest Detroit community.

  • Brittany Alexander, Trustee

    Brittany Alexander serves as a Trustee of Brightmoor Artisans Collective. A mother of two, Brittany first joined BAC as a volunteer in the Learning Garden and as a community partner through her former role with Alternatives for Girls. She has a personal passion for gardening, teaching her children about food sources and growing nourishing meals for her family. Brittany is also dedicated to sustainable living, local food, and expanding opportunities for all Brightmoor residents.

Executive Director

Rachel Meeker, M.A.

Rachel Meeker, Executive Director of Brightmoor Artisans Collective, is a Brightmoor resident dedicated to building equity, resilience, and community abundance from the ground up. With over 15 years in the nonprofit sector, she specializes in program development, community outreach, and resource strategy that empower resident-led change. Before joining BAC, Rachel managed livestock and food production at a permaculture farm, taught classes in sustainable living, and operated her own artisan soap business. She also serves on the boards of Neighbors Building Brightmoor and Friends of Rouge Park and volunteers as a Citizen Forester with Greening of Detroit. Guided by a deep belief in collective power, Rachel envisions Brightmoor as a thriving, self-determined community where residents lead solutions and cultivate opportunity from within.
