CANDIDATE STATEMENTS
Kimberly D. Williams
Brightmoor Farm Incubator Project Governance Committee Member and Education and Advocacy Subcommittee Member seeking re-election for 2026-2028.
As a BFIP Governance Committee Member, I have
attended monthly meetings offering guidance to Brightmoor Artisans Collective in regards to establishing a community land trust in the development of the Brightmoor Farm Incubator Project.
attended monthly meetings of the Michigan Community Land Trust Coalition to keep the BFIP Governance Committee abreast of statewide efforts in the community land trust arena. I have kept notes during those meetings, and given reports BFIP monthly meetings
planned and participated in meetings with other stakeholders including Detroit City Council Members.
met with the Brightmoor residents during informational meetings.
participated in Education and Advocacy Sub Committee meetings strategising ways to educate the community about the project, and to garner support from community members as well as from city and state government.
I am seeking re-election because I want to continue this important work. The Governance Committee is making steady progress and I know that in the coming months, we will have opportunities to engage the new Mayor and her administration about the importance of this project.
My strengths lie in education and advocacy as I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications from Michigan State University and a Master’s of Education from Marygrove College. I know how to communicate with the written and spoken word, and my life’s work has been in community advocacy and social justice. I am a retired adult educator and literacy advocate. I have been an avid gardener for 20 years and a native Detroiter who believes in maintaining connection to the land as a way to heal our bodies and souls. We must make sure that land in Brightmoor stays in the hands of Brightmoor residents for the betterment of the community. The Brightmoor Farm Incubator Project seeks to empower residents to keep predatory landlords out and uplift residents to generational wealth via land ownership and food grown by and for Brightmoor residents.
As a BFIP Governance Committee Member, I promise to work as aggressively as I can toward establishing this project and I am asking for your vote to continue this valuable work.
Respectfully submitted,
Kimberly D. Williams
